A small but often overlooked aspect of most ecommerce sites designs are the flat and bland payment options icons (Visa, Mastercard, Paypal…). From a usability standpoint the icons do need to be instantly recognized by the user, and you can understand why designers opt to use standard icon designs rather than being a little bit more adventurous.

Part of the problem is finding a uniform collection of payment icons that are both the same size and style and that are equally suited to your sites design. You will tend to have a mixture of icons that grouped together look strangely out of place. This is what this post aims to address, by helping you find a uniform collection of icons.

You could use it for web page design, web app design, architectural or structural design, graphic design, movie direction, animation… basically any type of design that needs a physical creative outlet or group collaboration. Not all sketch and wireframe sheets are universal, most are specialized for a particular medium, such as storyboards and specialized grid paper axonometric perspective templates.Below you will find a concise collection of ready to print sketching, wireframing and note-taking templates. Most, as expected, are geared towards the design community, but there are also templates that could be used within any industry and for any purpose.

Normally, when we’re talking about web design and we hear the word testing, the first thing that comes to mind is usability, and that’s fine, but when was the last time you sat down to analyze the level of accessibility of your website?

Testing on other aspects of your website are important, however, a lot of us seem to neglect our websites accessibility. This can ultimately lead to the loss of a wide range of users and poor elements of design.

But not to fear, below we’ve compiled a set of tools that will help you combat poor accessibility. Every tool is free to use and has been chosen because it’s easy to use and offers quality testing.

Making a supplemental living or going pro with freelancing online requires a specific skill set–and a toolbox containing all manner of special tricks and techniques. Building your toolbox while refining your skills comprise a fair amount of the work involved in creating a freelancing career, and one of the most important items in your toolbox is your portfolio. A great freelance portfolio should highlight your talents and give potential clients a meaningful way to choose you amongst your competitors–something that can be especially critical during your first few months, but which will remain important as you develop your reputation and experience.

As with many aspects of freelancing, creating a great portfolio doesn’t come with a standard manual or guidebook. It’s up to you to present yourself and your work with clarity and to express your value to others. But there are certainly many tips you can use to help structure and supplement your portfolio, and you’ll find some of the best below.

hatever your personal feelings are about HTML emails, they do work effectively as a communications and marketing tool. And worst of all, you can’t ignore them, you just know that at some point a client is going to ask you to create a template for them.

If you have never designed an HTML email template before you may be thinking: “Whats the big deal? You use some basic HTML with a little CSS, no problem at all!”. Little do you know that the actual design of the email is the least of your problems. When designing a web page you do need to cater for only a handful of browsers, each with there own particular little quirks. With emails, you need to design them to display properly in 50+ (!) email clients, with each one not willing to cooperate with.

There is no fun when designing an email template. You have to roll up your sleeves and test, and then test some more.

A well designed email template can be the difference between a companies success and failure, so its has to be designed right and formatted correctly.

To help you with this we have collected a huge array of email design Best Practices, tutorials (both HTML and CSS), testing tools, ready made templates (there are only a few, as most of the free templates out there look like they were all designed in the 90s) and finally some email inspiration.

Don’t forget usability and accessibility rules when designing emails, perhaps you should read these articles first: Design of Email Newsletters – Alertbox and Email Newsletters: New Results From Eyetracking and User Research.
